Worm in my Apple
Hello. My name is Dave and I'm a graphic designer.
Graphic designers use Macs. I grew up with them in elementary school, worked on them through college but always had a PC at home because I learned how to build my own years ago and for alot less money. After much self-imposed peer pressure to 'feel more like a pro designer' I bought an iMac with it's glassy super shine screen. No self-respecting design professional would be caught dead with an ugly soul-crushing M$ Windoze box right? I couldn't afford their 'MacPro' tower and their overpriced, underpowered Mini wouldn't do so I had no choice but to buy an iMac.
I hated it immediately.
Well I can't just get rid of it now can I? I just bought the Adobe CS3 suite and Office! So I bought an external 24in LCD about 5 days later. "So what now"you may ask well here is the problem; I could have bought said LCD + Built faster PC with a Quad Core CPU for $500 less. But OSX Leopard is brilliant you say. No one in the design community would take you serious they would cry. So I kept it and moved on begrudgingly.
It can't get worse though right? WRONG. Jobs now desides "Shiny is perfect for EVERYONE for EVERY product!" What? No 'Pro' uses a glossy 30in LCD for work! Now Apple gets rid of their matte display on their MacBook Pro, not only makes it 'glossy' only but it has a sheet of freakin' glass on it that acts like a mirror. Yes I've worked on one and yes I hate it still and no I will never grow to like it sorry. I feel like I've been duped, scammed and violated in the worst of ways. (Like in the back of a Volkswagen)
So here I sit with my overpriced all-in-one iMac with my LG 24in LCD and in need of a notebook to take to client reviews and I have no real option at this point but to buy an 'refurb' or 'super shine' new Macbook Pro. I could sell my iMac at a loss, crossgrade to Windows version of CS4, build a new mini-tower (you know, like the one Apple won't make) and get either a Dell or Lenovo notebook (yes they still have business class matte notebooks.)
It sucks to admit when you are wrong but I drank the kool-aid and now I am paying for it.
Want to buy a slightly used IMac?
